History

Wyss SAS Imports is a family-owned company that imports wild Alaskan salmon directly from Bristol Bay.

Julie Wyss comes from the Ball family, which makes its home in Alaska, and found its way to Switzerland through marriage. The family came to the 49th state of the United States as follows:

After the early death of his father, Albert Ball, grandfather of Julie Wyss-Ball, moved to Alaska from Washington State in 1925 at the age of 11 to financially support the family as a trapper (mink, rabbit, beaver) in the winter and as a fisherman and hunter in the summer and fall. He settled in Bristol Bay in the Dillingham area.

Very carefully and knowledgeably, Albert Ball studied the best salmon fishing spots in Bristol Bay. What is unthinkable today, was still possible then: he staked out land rights for the entire Ball & Moran family, which stretched for several miles along the beach of Bristol Bay. This is how the family tradition of sustainable salmon fishing began.  We now bring this tradition to Switzerland.

Since then, the wild salmon has been caught commercially during the Salmon run in the summer months (May - August) by our family. Bristol Bay is one of the largest sustainable wild salmon fisheries in the world.

Due to increasing demand from friends, relatives and acquaintances, our regular family visits to Alaska have developed into a commercial activity. Since 2009, we have therefore been importing wild salmon from Alaska.

The big advantage of Wyss SAS Imports is that we are on site ourselves every year and catch and select the fish personally and make sure that the fish are treated properly. Most fish are bled, filleted, vacuum packed and frozen before “rigor mortis”. This is all done in the shortest possible time to ensure the unique quality and freshness. Thus, we supervise the entire process from catching to freezing the salmon ourselves on site.

The first-class product of wild salmon coupled with the sustainable and environmentally friendly fishing method have found an excellent market in Switzerland.
